At SPARC (Sport & Recreation New Zealand) we're dedicated to getting New Zealanders moving. Our elite also receive financial support through SPARC’s Performance Enhancement Grants and Prime Minister’s Scholarships. The NZAS also offers an Athlete Career and Education programme which helps athletes manage their lives as well as achieving sporting excellence.
SPARC plays a prominent role in softballers reaching the elite level, through its high performance network, the New Zealand Academy of Sport (NZAS). The NZAS provides facilities and comprehensive services to benefit elite athletes in their sporting and non-sporting lives. A large number of New Zealand’s top softballers have accessed the medical and sport science services on hand at the three Academies throughout the country and accredited providers in the regions.The New Zealand Academy of Sport South Island (NZAS) is dedicated to helping athletes succeed in their pursuit of excellence. An Incorporated Society, it has been providing services, support and resources to athletes and their coaches since 2000, enabling them to acheive notable national and international success.It is contracted to Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) to deliver applied services (sport science, sports medicine, access to training facilities, coaching support and career, education and professional development opportunities) to athletes and coaches, while meeting the requirements of the nationally recognised Sports.
The NZAS network has two regionally based operations, one in the South Island and the other in the North. The regional operations are headquartered in Dunedin and Auckland, with major service centres also in Christchurch, Hamilton, and Wellington, and various satellite bases offering specialist services to ensure a nationwide coverage.

The New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) is New Zealand’s biggest funder of amateur sport. While sport remains the primary focus, NZCT also provides funds for charitable purposes such as rescue and life-saving surfaces, education, health, the arts, cultural and community groups. Funds come from operators throughout New Zealand who run NZCT gaming machines in their hotels, bars and clubs with a commitment to ensure money goes back into the communities from which it was raised. In 2005, NZCT made more than 5000 grants totalling nearly $35 million to national sporting bodies.
