Announcement:

Rex Capil, Softball New Zealand Board Chairman, announced today that Dale Eagar, the sport’s Chief Executive, is closing another chapter of his lengthy involvement in the game. Eagar will step down from his role in April. Eagar took over the Chief Executive role in 2005 after almost a decade as Chair of the Board and after an extended period as an administrator at national and regional level.

"Having been involved in the game virtually all my life as a player, coach or administrator, taking up the challenge of leading the sport as CEO when it came up in 2005 seemed to be almost that final step,' Eagar said.

While, like many sports, softball faces a number of challenging issues, Eagar also stated that softball has a huge number of positives and the potential to build on these in the future. The sport is in the process of establishing a new strategic direction and Eagar considered the time right to step down.

Capil said “The timing for announcements such as this is never ideal but Dale has made the point that the time is right for the sport given the planning that is currently taking place. A new CEO coming into the role will be able to be involved in establishing the new direction for the sport and apply fresh ideas and a new perspective to the process."

Capil added further that he wished Eagar well and looked forward to Eagar’s continuing involvement in the game in some capacity.
