The National Division 1 Secondary School Tournament has been staged since 1982 with Taita College (Hutt Valley) taking out the first boys title. The most successful boy's school has been both St Peters College (Auckland) and Kelston Boys High (Auckland) with 5 titles each. Hastings Boys High closely follows with 4 titles won over the last six years.
Waiopehu College (Levin) won the first girls title in 1982, but it has been Auckland Girls Grammar School that have won the tournament the most taking home 8 titles. Wellington East Girls College has won the tournament 4 times which includes the last four tournaments held.
