Playing Softball Overseas
Playing overseas has long been an important part of the development of many of New Zealand's leading male & female softballers.
International competition provides players with the opportunity to experience different environments, play more softball, develop their game and build relationships across the international softball community. It has also been an important contributor to New Zealand's success on the world stage.
Softball NZ's role
We know that finding an overseas playing opportunity has not always been straightforward.
Too often, opportunities have depended on personal relationships or simply knowing the right person. Softball New Zealand wants to help create a clearer, more connected and more accessible international pathway for our players.
Work is currently underway to review how we can better support athletes, including:
- providing clearer information about international playing opportunities
- developing trusted connections in key softball markets
- helping players understand the practical requirements of playing overseas
- improving connections between overseas competition and the wider White & Black Sox pathway
- providing athletes with greater support while they are away.
The intention is not for Softball New Zealand to become a player agent. Instead, we want to become a trusted connector and source of information, helping more players confidently explore opportunities that are right for them. That approach closely reflects the direction contemplated in the current project work.
