2016 INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP SERIES- MANAGER REPORTS

Day 4, 7 July, 2016

Our day started late afternoon due to wet weather. Our first game in the wet was against NSW. We started off very sharp by getting on base with errors from NSW early in the piece. We had a two down batting rally which Lewin, Tautala-Hanita, Tapili-Wetere, Roy, Rouru all with singles. Score being 6 5 loss.

2nd game of the double header was against ISA. This was the game of the week with diving catchers from King, Landon-Lane and Tricker. A triple from Rehutai, Koko-Latau, and Potter. Rouru hit a single. The score was 2 all draw.

Day 3, 6 July, 2016

Our day started at lunchtime today with Aussie Gold up first.  We got off to a sharp beginning with scoring 2 runs in the 1st innings and 1 in the 2nd, keeping Aussie scoreless.  After a couple of walks and couple errors and 4 safe hits we were 9 runs down.  Safe hits from Koko-Latau, Potter, Roy, Lewin and Tautala-Hanita.  9 - 3 Loss.

2nd game of the double header against Queensland was a vast improvement; Hiroki pitched well and kept the game tight.  We scored our 4 runs in the 2nd innings and Queensland did the same.  Rouru hit 2 from 2, Roy 2 from 3, and singles from McGillivray and Tricker.  Score was 5 - 4 loss.

Our catch up game from Tuesday was played late this evening, against Waverly.  Waverly got in early with the bat and we were trailing by 8 runs after 2 innings.  In the 4th we came back with 4 runs, with 1 singles from Rouru and a double from Koko-Latau. 9 - 4 loss.

Day 2, 5 July, 2016

A very disjointed day due to the weather delay and we had just 1 game against Torrens Valley Red Sox. We couldn’t string any runs together and left 5 runners on base with Landon-Lane hitting 1 from 2 and Lewin putting down a safe bunt.

Disappointing day and hopefully a different result tomorrow.
Score 2 nil loss.

First game 10am local time with a double header, and late game at 8pm local time.

Day 1, 4 July, 2016

Tuinenga and Boys had an okay day at the Ballpark today with 1 from 2. The first game against Aussie Green was a good performance from our NZ girls which is an inexperienced team and very nervous. We were down by 3 nil till the bottom of third, and Potter hit a double to score King and Koko-Latau.
McGillivray stood solid on the pitching mound for 4.5 innings, 8 hits, and 2 strikeouts with 1 walk. Tapili-Wetere, Potter, McGillivray, Lewin, Landon-Lane all got safe hits. We lost 6 5.

The next game in the double header was against Southern Pride, which tested our mental focus and our team’s ability to gel in the early stages in the tournament. Koko-Latau hit 3 from 3, Lewin 2 from 2, and singles for Potter, Rehutai, Tapili-Wetere. Great day on the mound by Hiroki pitching 4 innings with 6 strike outs, with 1 safe hit. Terry pitched 2 innings with 4 strike outs. A good solid win 6 1.

Day 2 brings us Torrens Valley Redsox at 10am local time and Waverley at 2pm local time.

NZ Girls Development Team progress

4/07/2012

The NZ girls have played 9 games so far on tour, 4 of them warm up matches against 4 NSW regional academies along with 5 games in the first 2 days of competition.

Last Thursday saw us go down in both matches. The first game was a little one sided only in the scorebook with girls showing nerves and for 16 of the squad there first competitive game since March. We went down 7-2. Our second game was a lot close as the nerves and rust slowly disappeared, narrowly going down 5-7 after it was tied up heading into their last bat.

Saturday saw us travel to Camden about an hours drive from 'home' where we met the remaining to academies. The first game saw us show what we are capable of with a commanding 12-3 win. This was continued into the second game with another victory 16-4. The standard shown by all was very good, with catcher Emma Houkamau, outfielder Mereana Monk and infielder Katie McAndrew Showing great touches throughout all four warm up games.

Monday the tournament kicked off and it was similar to last Thursday. Nerves came creeping back in for the first game against Aussie U19 green. We were in it for all of the game before going down 4-1. Amy Begg who started on the mound did a great job first up. Our second game saw us come up against the Aussie U17 development who showed some some great skills that showed the girls what level they need to rise to. We eventually lost 7-2. Australian based Jasmin Tonga pitched but was unfortunately hit out long and hard by the U17 girls.

Day 2 started positively and continued right throughout the day. First match saw us bet Aussie U19 gold 5-0. Counties pitcher Destiney Stirling pitching a great full game. Cassie Siataga and Mereana Monk hitting well during the game. NSW Metro was our next opposition, the girls got out to a quick lead with Siataga, Monk, and Mikayla Werahiko leading the way with the bat. Amy Begg did a good job to start with Tonga coming on to close. A small rally by Metro saw the score finish at 7-5. Melbourne based Waverly were our next opposition which saw us dominate with a 10-0 victory. Great pitching by Emily Rauhihi and a good team effort with the stick.

The team is getting back into the swing and with the two matches tomorrow which will determine our placing.

NZ Development Teams

 3/07/2012

Girls started off with a clean game against Australia U19 Green and went down 4-1.  We matched the Australians in size and strength but felt our kids were pretty new to this level of softball. Mereana Monk from Waikato is an outstanding prospect for New Zealand Women’s Softball, but there may be a tussle for her as she plays netball at the highest level. Amy Begg from Canterbury also looks like a good pitching prospect and young Cassie Satiaga is probably one of the best shortstop coming through our ranks. In the second game our girls lost to Aus U17 Development team 7-2.

2/07/2012

Alex Carter is the girls coach, Dave Reyland is the boys coach, and the tournament goes all week against top Australian sides.
