Black Sox Club Challenge

PURPOSE OF CLUB CHALLENGE

Softball NZ will host the Golden Homes BSX Invitation Club Challenge at Rosedale Park November 4-6. 

The purpose of the event is to assemble quality male club teams with the aim of providing intense competition for the Golden Homes Black Sox as they prepare for the upcoming Tradestaff WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup. 

The three day tournament will include eight club teams including local pickups to strengthen their chances of being victorious. 

To ensure the event is meaningful for the Black Sox the opposing teams will start with runners on base each inning. 

Seven teams have been confirmed their intent to battle against the Black Sox, including: 

POOL A: ELE Papanui, Auckland Marist, Poneke Kilbirnie, Auckland United
POOL B: Mt Albert Ramblers, Roosters, Porirua City United 

PRIZE MONEY

As an incentive $10k of prize money is up for grabs, making the tournament New Zealand’s largest ever purse. The prize money will be awarded as follows:
•    Winner $5K
•    Runner Up $2K
•    $500 for team/s that beat the BSX ($3K)
•    Total Prizes = $10K

To manufacture an intense and challenging environment, the Golden Homes Black Sox will be disadvantaged by the opposition starting each offensive inning as follows.
1st Innings - No runners
2nd Inning – Runner on 1
3rd Innings – Runner on 2
4th Innings – Runner on 3
5th Innings – Runner on 1
6th Innings – Runner on 2
7th Innings – Runner on 3

Note: The runner on base is anyone not scheduled to bat in the next 4 slots in the line-up, and is not the DR or substitutes.
 

POINTS

Points will be awarded on the basis of 5 for a win, 2 for a tie breaker loss and 1 for a loss by 2 or less. Where tie breaker points are awarded, no other points can be gained.
