A fantastic opportunity is now available to play a lead role supporting our elite women’s team, as a NZ White Sox team Assistant Coach 'Outfield Specialist'. This team is the pinnacle for our New Zealand women’s high performance pathway, and this year the team is heading to the Canada Cup, in Surrey, British Columbia with domestic camps and pre-tour build up planned as part of this campaign.

The key focus of this role is to work in conjunction with the head coach to lead the outfield skill and development aspects within the wider training squad, and thereafter the selected team for this campaign.

NEW ZEALAND DEVELOPING SOX BOYS - HEAD COACH (CLOSED)

The vacant Developing Sox Boys Head Coach position is open with a short close off date (15 Jan). The successful candidate ideally will attend either the North Island U15 Tournament in Hastings (20 -22 Jan) or the South Island U15 Clubs in Timaru (18-21 Jan). In conjunction with our high-performance programme you will lead the planning, coaching and support to selected athletes for a camp prior to entry at the Easter Classic (29 March - 1 April 2024, over Easter Weekend).   • Liaise with Chief Scorer on candidate criteria for international appointments.
  • Collate international game data and manage the senior international records for Softball New Zealand
  • Attend training clinics
  • Assist with training of official scorers
  • Check scorecards for national and international fixtures

ROLE SUMMARY

As the GM High Performance, you will have overall responsibility for:

  • Performance pathway
    • Working with the NSO to ensure performance network strategies and the operating model are aligned and integrated
  • HP Strategy and Development
    • Lead the HP vision, goals and strategies across our brands and associated pathways programmes 
  • Team and Culture
    • Develop a suitable HP culture that enables achievement of outcomes for athletes, coaches, and support staff 
  • HP Planning, Enabling and Reporting
    • Lead the implementation, monitoring and reporting of programme plans including reporting against delivery agreements 
  • HP Stakeholder Management and Communication
    • Ensure fit for purpose communication protocols and practices are in place to keep all stakeholders appropriately informed includes players, coaches and support staff, wider Softball New Zealand, High Performance Sport NZ, and other external stakeholders


DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Understands high performance systems
  • History of building and driving a high performance culture.
  • An understanding of the New Zealand HP system and HPSNZ strategy – desired 
  • An understanding of the NSO vision, strategy, priorities, and challenges.
  • Successful management of internal and external stakeholder relationships toward the achievement of joint objectives and targets.
  • Take an active role in succession planning for national players and coaches.
  • Tertiary qualified in a related field (e.g., Sports/Business) or leadership experience in high performance, elite or professional sport. 
  • Experience within elite softball would be seen as advantageous but not mandatory

The New Zealand Developing Sox Teams are part of the Softball New Zealand (SNZ) development pathway and in line with the junior and senior high-performance programmes. The key focus for the Developing Sox programmes is the preparation and development of under 15 athletes toward future winning performances for the senior national men’s and women’s teams on the international stage.

The Developing Sox Boys Head Coach in conjunction with the greater high-performance programme will lead the planning, coaching and support to selected athletes through a programme of camps and competitions through to August 2023.
