A Softball New Zealand and International Hall of Fame inductee, Tangaroa has attended 6 Word Championships including 3 as a player, and 3 as the successful Battery Coach for the World Champion Black Sox teams of 2000, 2004 and 2013.

Based out of Hawkes Bay, and a respected and revered teacher at Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Ngati Kahungunu ki Heretaunga, Tangaroa has given over 30 years to the game he loves and is looking forward to working alongside newly appointed Black Sox Head Coach, Thomas Makea.

“I am honoured to again be named as the Black Sox Battery Coach” says Tangaroa.

“I look forward to working with Thomas and Steven. It will be challenging, but I look forward to this challenge and the mahi in establishing the “Mana” that this team beholds.”

Softball New Zealand CEO Tony Giles says “Chubb is an iconic figure in our sport. Arguably the most successful and respected Battery Coach New Zealand has seen. He brings a wealth of knowledge, immense work ethic, and a pragmatic coaching style to our game.”

Chubb will complete the core appointments of the New Zealand Black Sox management team, under the guidance of new Head Coach Thomas Makea.
