WBSC RANKING #6
The Golden Homes New Zealand Black Sox will enter the Tradestaff WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup in the unfamiliar position of 6th seed. The tournament host and 7 time world champions have not taken the diamond since they lost the bronze medal game to Canada finishing fourth at the 2019 WBSC World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.
The loss to Canada was the first time the Black Sox had not made a world championship final since 1984 in Midland, USA.
The Black Sox who won world titles in 1976, ‘84, ‘96, ‘00, ‘04, ‘13 and 2017 are the most successful men’s softball team since the inaugural world championship was played in Mexico in 1966.
