The Metro Mount Albert Softball Club has slowly but surely, re-established itself within the Auckland Softball scene, having lost competition grades more than a decade ago - when the club fell into significant financial difficulties. Since then, The Metro Softball club has rebuilt from the ground up, having grown player numbers and established a pathway for young female players (with a male pathway set for 2021-2022 season). The culture created within the club, with its focus on fun and balance, has attracted players from around Auckland. it's social media presence is second to none, with high community engagement from fun softball-related pieces, photos from regional and national tournaments and up-to-date information from ASA or SNZ. The 'Juniors in June' and 'Members in May' segment on their page is hugely successful, with page followers doubling in the past 18 months. With COVID-19 effecting many this season, Metro Softball Club endeavoured to ensure that no player was left behind - successfully obtaining sponsorship and funding for two primary objectives (i) Growing our Girls - a programme to get more involvement from young women and girls in softball, which saw sponsorship of ALL girls aged 10 - 18 from businesses within the community, and (ii) Lend-A-Hand, a programme partnering with Tu Manawa Aotearoa, local businesses and players within the club, all of whom were able to provide financial assistance for equipment, uniforms and fees for 40 players within the club who were otherwise unable to play. On top of this, the club was able to partner with QT Auckland to host a Junior Programme fundraiser, which also assisted two players selected in the NZ Development Sox team.
